About Us

The best way to learn more about First Christian Church is to come and worship with us on Sunday mornings at 11 am.  First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is a community of people living and serving in the heart of Rockwood since 1885.  As Christ has welcomed us, we strive to welcome all! 

First Christian Church is a congregation that is a part of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ,) a Christian tradition that began on the American frontier in the 1800s. Today, we are united with the more than 3,500 Disciple of Christ congregations in the United States.

New to First Christian Church? 

We know that walking into a new church can be intimidating. Here are a few things we want you to know about us. At First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), we believe that God has called us to love one another as God loves us. You will be welcome here! No matter who you are or where you are in your faith journey – we welcome you to our congregation.

Where to park? You are welcome to park anywhere on the streets in downtown Rockwood. Or in the Regions Bank parking behind the Church on Chamberlain Avenue.

How to dress? You will see people wearing casual clothes and those in their Sunday best. How you choose to dress is not important. We truly mean, “Come as you are!”

Where to go? Our sanctuary is immediately on your left if you enter through the front main entrance. The Education Wing with Sunday School classes and nursery is down a few steps on your right. There will also be door Greeters who will be happy to help you get where you want to go.

What to expect? Expect to have sermons that engage the scripture and connect with your heart and your mind. Song leaders typically lead us to music played on the piano. Worship leaders and the minister lead us in worshipping together. We have a special time for children called “Time with Children of Ages.” Communion is at the heart of our worship service. Together, We share in the Lord’s Supper every week. Expect to be welcomed in this place!

What about my children? Children are a vital part of our community of faith and are welcome to participate fully in the life of our congregation. Your child is welcome to stay with you in worship. We also have a nursery available for infants through three years of age. Towards the beginning of our worship service, we have “Time with Children of All Ages,” a moment of blessing and reflection for kids of all ages. We then invite children four & up to attend our children’s worship, ”Worship & Wonder.”

Weekly Schedule

Sundays

10 am: Sunday School for Kids (nursery provided)- This class happens from September- May.

11 am: Worship in the Sanctuary                       

5:30 – 7:00 pm: Wednesday Night Live for children & youth. (4 years through 12th grade. Dinner Provided)

7:00 pm: Handbell Choir Rehearsal (this schedule sometimes changes- please check in!)
